CWRU Wrestling Joins Beat the Streets Movement

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

This past weekend marked the culmination of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling fall outreach program, Beat the Streets – Cleveland.

The fall clinic series was comprised of seven wrestling clinics, the first six took place in the CWRU wrestling room and the seventh and final clinic took place in the Veale Athletic Center Indoor Track on Saturday, November 12th.

Throughout the fall, the members of the CWRU wrestling program took on coaching roles to instruct participants on techniques of wrestling values of self-discipline and hard work. To date, the wrestling program has combined for over 150 service hours through this initiative.

The seventh clinic was the culminating event and was led by CWRU Alumnus and NCAA National Champion, Isaac Dukes '12. The Beat the Streets movement began in New York and is now a force across the country. Other cities that have joined the movement are Philadelphia, Baltimore, Los Angeles and as of the spring of 2016, Cleveland.

"There are several responsibilities that come along with being a part of an NCAA program and many of the responsibilities are not directly tied to the sport itself," said Head Coach Danny Song. "Beyond development of the individual athlete, it is critical to contribute back to the university, the  community, and to the sport. There is no better vehicle to meet this responsibility than Beat the Streets - Cleveland. Our guys did an outstanding job with making 'BTS' a priority. Not only did they give their time, they were excellent ambassadors of CWRU and our sport."
