Athletes of the Week for January 2, 2018

Women’s Basketball

Kaitlyn Read  —  NYU  —  University Park, TX (Highland Park)

NYU guard Kaitlyn Read totaled 25 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals to lead the Violets to a 64-62 comeback win over Smith College. She made five of six free throws in the final 40 seconds to turn a three-point deficit into a two-point win. Read hit nine of 10 free throws in the game.

Men’s Basketball

Seth Henry  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Fulton, MD (Reservoir)

Carnegie Mellon junior Seth Henry scored a career-high 32 points in one game and posted a pair of double-doubles as the Tartans split two games at the Lycoming College Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament. He hit 12 of 16 field goals and added 11 rebounds in his 32-point performance in the Tartans’ 80-68 win over King’s College (PA). Henry followed that with 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and grabbed 10 boards in a loss to the ninth-ranked hosts. He earned all-tournament honors, averaging 23.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 73.1 percent from the field (19-for-26).

Wrestling

Jack La Corte  —  NYU  —  Monmouth Beach, NJ (Christian Brothers Academy)

NYU sophomore 197-pounder Jack La Corte finished in third place at the Citrus Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He finished 4-1 overall to improve to 19-3 on the season and remained undefeated against NCAA Division III competition.

They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
