Athletes of the Week for April 9, 2018
Baseball
Alex Capetillo — Case Western Reserve University — Cincinnati, OH (Turpin)
Case Western Reserve University senior designated hitter Alex Capetillo batted .667 (12-for-18) as the 13th-ranked Spartans took all four games in a series against Brandeis University. He contributed three doubles, a home run, scored five runs, and drove in four. Capetillo recorded a 1.000 slugging percentage with a .714 on-base percentage to help the Spartans improve to 7-1 to take a three-game lead in the UAA standings.
Ben Murphy — Case Western Reserve University — Jeromesville, OH (Wooster)
Case Western Reserve University senior Ben Murphy yielded two runs, one earned, on four hits over 7.2 innings in the Spartans’ 8-3 win over Brandeis University on Sunday. He did not walk a batter and struck out five. Murphy retired the first nine batters he faced and 17 of the first 18 to improve to 4-1 this season with a 1.55 earned run average.
Men’s Golf
Matt Organisak — Emory University — Sudbury, MA (Lincoln-Sudbury Regional)
Sophomore Matt Organisak earned all-tournament honors to help lead third-ranked Emory University to a first-place finish at the Discover DeKalb Emory Spring Invitational at the Smoke Rise Country Club. He shot an even-par 140, carding a two-under par 68 on the second day, to place third in the 83-player field.
Robbie Keyes — NYU — Louisville, KY (duPont Manual)
Freshman Robbie Keyes of NYU tied for first place and helped the Violets’ take the title in their home invitational over the weekend. He shot rounds of 73 and 74 for a two-day total of 147 and a share of first place in the 63-player field.
Softball
Janelle Turnquest — Emory University — Austin, TX (Westlake)
Emory University senior Janelle Turnquest hit .667 (4-for-6) with two runs scored, a home run, a triple, and four runs batted in as the Eagles remained undefeated in UAA play with a four-game sweep at Washington University. In Friday’s second game, she hit a run-scoring single to tie the game 1-1 in an eventual 4-1 Eagles’ victory. Turnquest snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning of the final game of the weekend, a 4-2 win. She posted a 1.500 slugging percentage and .750 on-base percentage.
Ilissa Hamilton — Case Western Reserve University — Abington Township, PA (Scranton Preparatory)
Case Western Reserve University sophomore Ilissa Hamilton did not allow a run in 13 innings of work in two Spartan wins over visiting Brandeis University. In a shutout on Saturday, she allowed four hits and struck out eight, while also hitting her first career home run. Hamilton fanned 12 batters in her two starts and batted .333 (3-for-9) in the four Spartan victories.
Jacqueline Spizizen — Emory University — West Bloomfield, MI (Detroit Country Day)
Emory University first-year pitcher Jacqueline Spizizen earned three wins, allowing one unearned run and eight hits in 17 innings as the Eagles remained unbeaten in UAA play with a four-game sweep at Washington University. She issued just one walk and fanned 13 batters in four appearances, opening the series with a two-hit complete-game shutout. Spizizen worked three scoreless innings of relief to garner the victory in the Eagles’ 4-2 win in the series finale.
Women’s Tennis
Bridget Harding — Emory University — Northport, NY (Northport)
Senior Bridget Harding finished 3-0 at No. 2 singles and first doubles as Emory University topped three top-15 programs. She earned three-set victories over opponents from sixth-ranked Tufts University and eighth-ranked Amherst College, and won in straight sets against 14th-ranked Bowdoin College for her 100th career singles victory. Harding and first-year teammate Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico ran their unbeaten string to 14 matches with their three No. 1 doubles victories.
Claire Handa — University of Chicago — Rockville Centre, NY (Friends Academy)
First-year player Claire Handa won all six of her matches combined at No. 1 singles and first doubles to help lead University of Chicago to its third consecutive Midwest Invitational title, including a 6-3 win over 12th-ranked Washington University in the final. She won all her singles matches in straight sets, moving to 14-1 in dual matches this season. Handa teamed with sophomore Marjorie Antohi to earn three doubles wins.
Men’s Tennis
Johnny Wu — Washington University — West Chester, PA (Unionville)
Senior Johnny Wu earned a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles as Washington University defeated NAIA Lindenwood University and Denison University. He recorded a pair of straight-set wins at No. 1 singles and teamed with freshman Benjamin van der Sman for back-to-back 8-2 victories at third doubles.
Women’s Outdoor Track and Field
Annalise Wagner — Washington University — Webster Groves, MO (John Burroughs)
Senior Annalise Wagner ran the fourth-fastest NCAA Division III time this season in the 800-meter run at the St. Louis University Billiken Invitational. She placed first in the event against Division I, II, and III competitors in a time of 2:12.49. Wagner ran on the runner-up 1,600-meter relay that completed the race in 3:59.93.
Isabel Saridakis — Emory University — Richfield, OH (Walsh Jesuit)
Sophomore Isabel Saridakis broke the Emory University outdoor record in the pole vault on Friday at the Berry College Invitational. She won the event with a height of 3.65 meters, which ranks 10th in NCAA Division III this season.
Men’s Outdoor Track and Field
Benjamin Rogin — Emory University — Highland Park, IL (Highland Park)
Senior Benjamin Rogin won the 400-meter hurdles and placed third in the 110-meter hurdles to help lead Emory University to the Berry College Invitational title. His time of 55.16 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles marked a career-best and ranks 27th in NCAA Division III this season, and his time of 14.91 seconds in the 110 hurdles ranks 17th in Division III. He ran on the 400-meter relay that posted a season-best time of 43.36 seconds.
Churchill Perry — Brandeis University — Pembroke Pines, FL (Westminster Academy)
Sophomore Churchill Perry of Brandeis University captured the triple jump at the Amherst College Spring Fling last weekend. His leap of 13.99 meters marked his collegiate best and ranks 17th in NCAA Division III this season.
Dominic Oddo — Case Western Reserve University — Mentor, OH (Mentor)
Case Western Reserve University sophomore Dominic Oddo won the long jump and finished second in the 400-meter hurdles at the Oberlin College Marv Frye Invitational. His winning mark of 6.80 meters in the long jump ranks tied for 21st in NCAA Division III this season. Oddo registered a time of 57.00 seconds in his runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles and he placed third in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.02 seconds.

UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
