Men’s Cross Country
Jorge Maldonado — NYU — Palisades Park, NJ (Palisades Park)
NYU sophomore Jorge Maldonado placed 10th in the 303-runner field at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Championships. He completed the eight-kilometer course in 24:49.2 to lead the Violets to a fourth-place finish in the 44-team field.
Women’s Cross Country
Khia Kurtenbach — University of Chicago — Germantown, WI (Germantown)
University of Chicago junior Khia Kurtenbach finished first in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. She completed the six-kilometer course in 21:41.22 to best a field of 265 runners and lead the Maroons to a third-place finish in the 38-team field.
Football — Offense
J.J. Tomlin — Washington University — Franklin, TN (Centennial)
Senior quarterback J.J. Tomlin completed 26 of 36 passes for 483 yards and matched a program single-season record with six touchdowns in a 43-34 Washington University victory over University of Chicago. His quarterback rating for the game was 153.9, nearly a perfect 158.3. The victory gave the Bears a share of the UAA title for the second consecutive season.
Football — Defense
Brian Khoury — Carnegie Mellon University — Davenport, IA (Bettendorf)
Senior defensive lineman Brian Khoury recorded nine tackles, including eight solo hits, as Carnegie Mellon University handed 21st-ranked Case Western Reserve University its only loss of the season, 26-21. He added a sack, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble as the Tartans earned a share of the UAA title for the second consecutive season.
Ben Marcus — Washington University — Glen Ellyn, IL (Glenbard West)
Sophomore defensive back Ben Marcus recorded 15 tackles and two interceptions as Washington University earned a share of the UAA title with a 43-34 road win over University of Chicago. His first interception in the end zone to stall a 79-yard drive in the second quarter, and his pick with 1:25 remaining in the game sealed the victory.
Football — Special Teams
Johnny Davidson — Washington University — Inverness, IL (Barrington)
Freshman punter Johnny Davidson averaged 44.8 yards on six punts in the 43-34 Washington University win at University of Chicago that earned the Bears a share of the UAA title. He booted a season-long 58-yard punt in the first quarter and dropped two kicks inside the Maroons’ 20-yard line. The Bears held the Maroons to -6 yards on punt returns.
Women’s Soccer — Offense
Hannah Maatallah — Brandeis University — Wilton, CT (Wilton)
Brandeis University sophomore Hannah Maatallah scored two goals and converted a penalty kick as the Judges won twice in the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship. She netted a pair of second-half goals in a 3-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan University in the opening round. Maatallah scored the team’s first goal on penalty kicks as the Judges outlasted fifth-ranked The College of New Jersey.
Women’s Soccer — Defense
Alexis Grossman — Brandeis University — Syosset, NY (Syosset)
Brandeis University senior goalkeeper Alexis Grossman recorded her 20th career shutout in a 3-0 Judges’ win over Virginia Wesleyan University and then helped the Judges advance in the following round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship with two penalty kick saves. She stopped four shots against Virginia Wesleyan and made two saves in regulation before making the key stops in penalty kicks to send the Judges past fifth-ranked The College of New Jersey.
Katie Donovan — University of Chicago — New Canaan, CT (New Canaan)
University of Chicago first-year goalkeeper Katie Donovan registered back-to-back shutouts in the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship. She stopped two shots in a 6-0 Maroon win over Webster University and then made four saves in a 2-0 blanking of Augsburg College.
Men’s Soccer — Offense
Zach Vieira — Brandeis University — Andover, MA (Brooks School)
Senior forward Zach Vieira scored a goal in each of two Brandeis University wins in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the first round, a 2-1 Judges’ victory over Western New England University. Vieira tallied in the 53rd minute of a 3-0 Judges’ win over St. Joseph’s College (ME) in the second round.
Men’s Soccer — Defense
Ben Woodhouse — Brandeis University — Suffield, CT (Suffield)
Junior goalkeeper Ben Woodhouse made six saves in the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. He made three stops each in a 2-1 overtime victory over Western New England University and a 3-0 victory over Saint Joseph’s College (ME), recording his eighth shutout this season.
Volleyball
Jessica Holler — Emory University — Roswell, GA (Blessed Trinity)
Emory University senior Jessica Holler was named Most Outstanding Player of the Brockport regional as the Eagles advanced to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship quarterfinals. She hit .485, averaging 4.0 kills and 1.6 blocks per set. She hit .424 and recorded 18 kills and seven blocks in a three-set win over Clarkson University and then hit .545 with a match-high 13 kills and six blocks in a sweep of State University of New York at Brockport in the regional final.
Caroline Dupont — Washington University — Leawood, KS (Blue Valley North)
Washington University senior Caroline Dupont was named Most Outstanding Player of the Whitewater regional as the Bears advanced to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship quarterfinals. She totaled 41 kills in three matches with a .376 hitting percentage. She hit .500 with 13 kills, five service aces, seven digs, and three blocks in the Bears’ sweep of Bluffton University. Dupont hit .444 with 15 kills in a four-set win over host University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the regional final.
Zoe Baxter — Washington University — Los Angeles, CA (Harvard-Westlake)
Washington University first-year libero averaged 5.42 digs per set to lead the Bears to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship regional title at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She recorded a career-best 27 digs in a five-set win over Heidelberg University in which the Bears trailed two sets to one and 23-19 in the fourth set. Baxter totaled 22 digs, five assists, and two service aces in a four-set win over host UW-Whitewater in the regional final.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Emma Nicklas-Morris — Carnegie Mellon University — Winston-Salem, NC (Reynolds)
Carnegie Mellon University first-year swimmer Emma Nicklas-Morris won three events as the Tartans competed against Grove City College and Washington & Lee University on Saturday. She won the 100-yard freestyle (53.50 seconds), 200-yard freestyle (1:55.12), and 200-yarda individual medley (2:08.61).
Machika Kaku — Carnegie Mellon University — Irvine, CA (University)
Carnegie Mellon University senior Machika Kaku won both diving events against Grove City College on Saturday. She met the NCAA Division III regional qualifying standard in each event with winning scores of 256.58 on the one-meter board and 293.33 in the three-meter event.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
Mitchell Riek — Carnegie Mellon University — Sunland, CA (Bishop Alemany)
Sophomore Mitchell Riek of Carnegie Mellon University won three individual events against Grove City College and Washington & Lee University on Saturday. He captured the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.19), 500-yard freestyle (4:41.80), and 1,000-yard freestyle (9:39.96). Riek also swam on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.43).
Gabe Bamforth — Carnegie Mellon University — Cambridge, MA (Cambridge Rindge Latin School)
Sophomore Gabe Bamforth of Carnegie Mellon University recorded career-best scores for six dives in winning both diving events against Grove City College. His scores of 340.43 on the three-meter board and 308.70 in the one-meter event each met the NCAA Division III regional qualifying standard.
Wrestling
Kyle Peisker — University of Chicago — Elk Grove, IL (Conant)
University of Chicago freshman Kyle Peisker finished 5-0 at the Trine University Invitational in his collegiate debut at 157 pounds. After an opening pin, he put together two technical falls and a major decision to reach the final. Peisker captured the title with a thrilling 18-14 victory.

UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
