Athletes of the Week for May 22, 2017

Baseball

Tate Maider  —  Washington University  —  Seattle, WA (Roosevelt)

Senior catcher Tate Maider batted .400 (4-for-10) as Washington University concluded its season at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Regional in Sauget, Illinois. He recorded a pair of doubles, one run scored, and one run batted in over a three-game stretch.

Scott Nelson  —  Washington University  —  Deer Park, IL (Barrington)

Senior pitcher Scott Nelson tossed nine innings of one-hit ball in his final outing for Washington University, which concluded its season at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Regional in Sauget, Illinois. He walked just one batter and struck out two in a game the Bears eventually lost 1-0 in 12 innings.

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field

Emily Bryson  —  Brandeis University  —  Quincy, MA (North Quincy)

Sophomore Emily Bryson of Brandeis University qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 1,500-meter run at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Last Chance Qualifier on Thursday. She won the event in a personal-best time of 4:31.28, topping her previous mark by more than four seconds. Her time ranks ninth in Division III heading into the NCAA championship.

Rebecca Ridderhoff  —  Washington University  —  Woodridge, IL (Downers Grove North)

Senior Rebecca Ridderhoff of Washington University won the 400-meter hurdles and placed second in the 100-meter hurdles at the North Central College Gregory Invitational. Her times of 1:00.67 in the 400 hurdles and 14.42 seconds in the 100 hurdles both rank among the top-10 times in NCAA Division III this season.

Heidi Nassos  —  Washington University  —  Wheaton, IL (Wheaton Warrenville South)

Sophomore Heidi Nassos of Washington University equaled her season-best height in the pole vault at the North Central College Gregory Invitational. She reached a height of 3.77 meters, which ranks 19th in Division III this season and earned her a spot in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field

Nathaniel Wahner  —  Case Werstern Reserve University  —  Drexel Hill, PA (Upper Darby)

Case Western Reserve University senior Nathaniel Wagner broke his own school record in the 200-meter dash at the Great Lakes Elite Meet on Thursday. His time of 21.43 seconds bettered his previous mark of 21.64 seconds set at the 2017 UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He also claimed the title in the 400-meter dash in 49.11 seconds.

Everett Kleven  —  Washington University  —  Mill Creek, WA (Henry M. Jackson)

Washington University senior Everett Kleven recorded a program-record mark of 5.18 meters in the pole vault at the North Central College Gregory Invitational. His height currently ranks third in NCAA Division III this season.
