NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Sophomore Victor Gaulmin netted a penalty kick in the final 15 minutes of regulation in the St. Olaf College men's soccer team's 1-1 tie against the No. 15-ranked University of Chicago on Sunday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.

Gaulmin's 77th-minute equalizer came 13 minutes after Richard Gillespie had put UChicago (3-0-1) on top following a corner kick. The Oles had a chance to grab a late winning goal with two-and-a-half minutes remaining in regulation, but Calvin Walters got down to save sophomore Jordan Oberholtzer's shot from the left side of the box after Oberholtzer cut in from the left.

With the game more than an hour old, the Maroons broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, as Gillespie turned the ball in from the top of the six-yard box after a corner kick by Jack Leuker.

UChicago's lead did not last 13 minutes, however, as senior Lucas Gaulmin was fouled in the box by a Maroons' defender when challenging for a header. The younger Gaulmin stepped up and smashed the ball into the lower-left corner for his second goal of the season.

The best chance of either of the two overtime periods fell to Gillespie for the visitors, but his effort after a corner kick was blocked on the line by sophomore Shea Bechtel. Sophomore Austin Williams was alert to make a close-range save on the rebound.

Williams made a career-high six saves for the Oles, who picked up their first result against a ranked opponent since a 0-0 tie at No. 8 St. Thomas on Oct. 12, 2016. Walters had a four-save afternoon for the Maroons.

St. Olaf opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play at Bethel on Wednesday, Sept. 15.
