WOLVERINES TOPPLE CMU IN OT!

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Sophomore quarterback Josh Ehst (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) scored on a one-yard sneak on Grove City's fifth offensive play in double overtime, lifting the Wolverines to a 29-26 home Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over previously-undefeated Carnegie Mellon (4-1, 3-1 PAC) on Homecoming at Robert E. Thorn Field.

CMU took a 26-23 on its possession in the second overtime as Josh Lyons booted a 23-yard field goal. On Grove City's possession, the Wolverines faced third-and-7 but Ehst fired a nine-yard completion to junior wide receiver Cody Gustafson (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg), moving the ball to the CMU 13. Senior running back Wesley Schools (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) then charged through the CMU defense for 12 yards, giving Grove City goal to go.

In the first overtime, Grove City took a 23-20 lead on a 29-yard field goal from sophomore kicker Nick Morrow (Moon Township, Pa./Moon). Junior defensive end R.J. Debo (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) and freshman nose tackle James Parenti (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) sacked CMU quarterback J.D. Dayhuff for a loss of six yards on third down. But Lyons tied the game with a 42-yard field goal, the first field goal of his collegiate career.

Grove City (3-2, 2-2 PAC) trailed 6-3 at halftime but tied the game on Morrow's 35-yard field goal with 6:28 left in the third quarter. The Wolverines took their first lead on their next possession as Ehst fired a 71-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Cameron Drake (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) with 3:46 remaining in the period.

CMU cut the lead to 13-12 less than a minute into the fourth quarter as Dayhuff threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Kris Hughes. Sophomore tackle Jared Krout (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) blocked the extra point, however, preserving the lead.

School pushed the lead to 20-12 with a four-yard touchdown run at the 11:58 mark. Drake caught passes of 29 and 33 yards, respectively, on the drive to set up the score.

Carnegie Mellon tied the game at 20 when Dayhuff threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Kerry Tomasetti with 5:35 remaining in regulation. Hughes caught the two-point conversion. Hughes' 22-yard touchdown catch with 1:07 left in the first quarter gave CMU a 6-0 lead.

Morrow's 23-yard field goal with 8:58 left in the first half trimmed the CMU advantage to 6-3.

Schools ran for 176 yards on 34 carries. Drake caught six passes for 148 yards while Gustafson caught five balls for 68 yards. Ehst finished 11 of 31 for 216 yards. Grove City outgained CMU, 387-373.

Junior safety Patrick Mark (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Wellington) and sophomore linebacker Nik Grabiec (Newport, Pa./Newport) both intercepted passes for the Wolverines. Mark and sophomore end Ryan Appleby (Louisville, Ohio/Thomas Aquinas) both had sacks.

Senior linebacker Luke Salerno (Cowansville, Pa./Karns City) led Grove City with 10 tackles. Senior safety Jackson McFall (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) and senior cornerback Jacob Ross (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) each had eight tackles, as did Debo.

Chris Haas led CMU with 119 rushing yards on 27 carries. Grove City limited Dayhuff, the conference's leading passer, to 166 yards on 14-of-33 accuracy.

Grove City had three penalties for 20 yards while CMU had two flags for 23 yards. CMU held a 30:56-29:04 edge in time of possession.

The Wolverines are now 7-3 all-time in overtime. Saturday's game marked the first overtime game at Robert E. Thorn Field since September 14, 2002, when CMU defeated the Wolverines, 9-6, in overtime. It is the first time that Grove City has played an overtime game on Homecoming.

Grove City begins a three-game road trip next Saturday at Westminster. Kickoff at Memorial Field in New Wilmington will be 1 p.m.
