MINNEAPOLIS -- Two second-half goals lifted No. 10-ranked Washington University-St. Louis to a 2-0 victory over host Augsburg University in a nonconference women's soccer game on Sunday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Washington-St. Louis 2, Augsburg 0
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 0-2-0 overall, Washington-St. Louis 2-0-0 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Playing its second nationally ranked opponent on its opening weekend, Augsburg held Washington-St. Louis scoreless in the first half, despite being outshot by a 12-2 margin. But a goal in the 53rd minute and another in the 82nd minute gave the Bears the margin of victory, as they outshot the Auggies 14-2 in the second half, en route to a 26-4 shots advantage.
Emily Chapman (JR, Elburn, Ill./Kaneland HS) had a career-high 11 saves in goal for the Auggies, including several dramatic diving saves in the second half.
• Augsburg's best chance to score came in the 48th minute, as an Ashley St. Aubin (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) shot hit the right goalpost. St. Aubin had sprinted in from the left side and fired a shot across the goal mouth to the right, eluding the Bears' goalkeeper but not the goalpost.
Gabriela Encarnacion (JR, Bel Air, Md./Bel Air HS) had the Auggies' lone shot on-goal in the game. St. Aubin, Kealie Espinda Banick (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) and Natalee Lessert (SO, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) also had shots for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Taylor Cohen scored for Washington-St. Louis in the 53rd minute, scoring on a rebound after a Marissa Kalkar shot hit the goalpost, following a feed from the end line by Caroline Dempsey. Kalkar then scored from Erin Flynn in the 82nd minute to cap the scoring.
• Emma Greenfield had one save in goal to pick up the shutout win.
• Washington-St. Louis, the 2016 NCAA Division III national champions and an NCAA national tournament team each of the past 12 seasons, entered the weekend ranked No. 10 in the United Soccer Coaches Division III preseason national poll.

UP NEXT
