After a close opening quarter, the Eagles took control in the 2nd outscoring Piedmont by 13 holding the Lady Lions without a field goal for the final 4:36 of the first half. Â Despite the 14-point deficit at the halftime break, Piedmont rallied in the final two quarters outscoring Emory by two in the third and seven in the fourth, but it was not enough to pull the Lady Lions level with the Eagles after a good start by the home team.Â

MARY KATE RUSHTON tallied 20 points on the afternoon, a game-high, while Emory was led by Khadijah
 Sayyid's dozen as she also tallied a team-high seven assists.  Emory collected 16 points on second chance efforts compared to the Lady Lions who tallied seven with the Eagles' work on the offensive glass key to the result on Sunday.
No Lady Lion had more than three rebounds in the contest while Emory's Sayyid led her team with seven.  The loss puts Piedmont at 1-1 before a six day break as the Lady Lions will get back on the court after Thanksgiving against Oglethorpe in Atlanta. Turning Point--Emory's 25-12 advantage in the 2nd quarter of the Sunday afternoon contest that helped the Eagles build a 46-28 lead at the halftime break.Â
Standout Performances--
MARY KATE RUSHTON led all scorers with her 20 points going a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and hitting four tri-fectas.

BRIANNA BARRETT also tallied double figures with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field including a 4-of-8 mark from downtown.
Inside the Box Score--Offensive rebounds sank the Lady Lions' hopes of a comeback over the Eagles as Emory more than doubled up Piedmont in that category with 16 compared to PC's seven, a factor that led to 15 extra shots for the home team.
--Emory got a big lift from its bench with 46 points including two subs in double figures, Sarah Arington with 11 and Lauren Weems with 10.
News & Notes--The Lady Lions shot much better from 3-point land than in their season opener against Toccoa Falls firing at a 44% rate compared to a 24% mark at Toccoa this past Thursday.
--Piedmont had taken the last meeting in the series, an 81-69 win last December in Cave Arena.
Up NextThe Lady Lions will head to Atlanta again for a pair of games at the USA South / SAA Challenge hosted by Oglethorpe. Â Piedmont will first play the host Stormy Petrels on November 28 with tip off set for 4:00 pm. Â On November 29, the Lady Lions will play Berry College with that contest set for a 2:00 pm start.
