Men’s Tennis Picks Up Wins Against CWRU & Oberlin

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team extended its winstreak to six matches Sunday, picking up a pair of victories over Case Western Reserve (6-1) and Oberlin (6-1). The Vikings finish the weekend with an 11-5 overall record.

Manuel Bellutti was the lone Viking to go 2-0 in singles play on the weekend, while he also went 2-0 in doubles play. Ali Shabib, who was only in the singles lineup against CWRU, now ranks seventh on the CSU singles wins list with 58 career victories.

"This was a great day for us to play some local teams, including Case Western who is ranked No. 12 in the country in Division III – and they were definitely a formidable opponent for us," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "The team brought a lot of energy, and I was proud of how the guys started the day sharper than usual and carried that throughout the entire day. We were able to use the full lineup today, and it was great to see Kevin and Andre both pick up some dual match victories. I thought it felt like we brought the same intensity despite playing with a different lineup, which is great for us moving forward."
