Cold Shooting in First Half Leads to Bison Loss to Carnegie Mellon

Bethany, WV- The Bethany College Men's Basketball team lost to Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon 69-60. Junior Trey Shifflett (York, Pa/ William Penn) notched a career high 24 points for the Bison. The green and white fall to 1-6 (0-1) while Carnegie Mellon is 2-5.


Shifflett led the Bison with 24 points, earning 11 of them from the charity stripe. Freshman Khalil Wilson (Pittsburgh, Pa/Woodland Hills) added 13 points for the green and white. Freshman Trez Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa/Obama Academy) led the Bison with six rebounds and added eight points. The Bison as a team had six blocks and nine steals. Freshman Dylan Furlong (Norwalk, Ohio/ St. Paul) led the team with a career high three blocks.


Bethany shot a cold 5-26 (19.2%) in the first half compared to CMU's 12-28 (42.9%). The Green and white would only trail 29-18 at half. The Bison shot a much higher 50% from the field in the second half but couldn't climb back. Bethany would trail by as many as 13 points in the second half. The Bison came within four of the Tartans with 5:36 to go in the half from a Shifflett layup, but would soon give up a jumper to put them back down six. Bethany quickly saw their opportunity to climb back get out of reach as the game went on.


Ethan Miller (King of Prussia, Pa/Upper Merion) led Carnegie Mellon with 19 points.


Bethany travels to Grove City College on Wednesday for a PAC matchup at 7:30pm.
