Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Tennis had its 2018 spring opener spoiled by nationally-ranked New York University on Friday evening. The visiting No. 33 Violets beat the short-handed Garnet 9-0 in the indoor match.
Swarthmore came close in first and third doubles, falling 8-6 and 8-5, respectively.
Arya Jemal pushed for a third set in number four singles. She won the first set 6-3, dropped the second set by the same score, but was edged in the tiebreaker 10-8.
Anna Scheibmeir worked for three sets as well in fifth singles. After falling in the first set, Scheibmeir battled to win the second set 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreaker game. Scheibmeir, however, was tripped up in the final set.
Swarthmore faces Christopher Newport University on Sunday.
