ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Cortland women's volleyball team concluded its regular-season schedule with a split of two matches at the New York Regional Challenge, hosted by RIT. The Red Dragons (23-10) lost to NYU in three sets, with the Violets winning 25-22, 25-17, 25-19, but recovered to outlast the host Tigers in five sets, 33-31, 22-25, 25-17, 21-25, 15-12.
Cortland will host Oswego in the SUNYAC tournament quarterfinals Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Hannah Southcott (Princeton, WV) led Cortland versus NYU with 11 kills and was second on the team with 11 digs.
Maya Owens (Nyack),
Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) and
Bridgette Moran (Massapequa Park/St. John the Baptist) each had five kills, while Moran led the Red Dragons with three blocks.
Carly Haegele (Commack) registered a team-best 19 digs.
Southcott also led Cortland in its win over RIT with 19 kills and she added 18 digs. Moore tallied 11 kills and three blocks, and Owens and Moran each recorded 10 kills and five blocks. Haegele posted 32 digs, followed by
Malley Bowen (Tioga/Tioga Central) with 17 and
Kiersten Cote (East Rockaway/Kellenberg Memorial) with 15. Cote led the squad with three aces.
Gabby Amelio (Pine Bush) distributed 25 assists and Bowen had 22 assists.
