Roanoke Tops Emory 1-0 in Women's Soccer Action

The Lead: Courtney Yoke's second-half goal and nine saves by Caroline Liebel sent Roanoke to a 1-0 win over Emory on Sunday afternoon in the final day of the Roanoke Invitational.

How it Happened

  • Emory applied offensive pressure in the first-half but Liebel came up big making five saves in the first 45 minutes of action.
  • Yoke notched the lone goal of the match in the 57th minute when Emory keeper Haley Pratt stopped the an initial shot by Emily Whitaker but Yoke was right in front of the net and was able tap home the rebound for her first goal of the season.
  • Following Yoke's goal Emory attempted to tie the game but Liebel and the rest of the Maroon defense held the Eagles off the board for the reminder of the contest with Liebel making four second-half stops.
  • The Eagles held a 17-4 edge in shots, while Haley Pratt made three stops in net for Emory.
