MARIETTA, Ohio - In a game that seemed it may not get played Wednesday, it didn't, well at least not entirely. A two hour 27 minute lightning delay pushed the start time of the game to 10:45 causing to last into Thursday morning.

After all was said and done Case Western Reserve University (31-10 overall) defeated Thomas More College (23-18), 6-2, at Don Schaly Stadium in Marietta.

The win puts CWRU in the winner's bracket to face off with Salisbury University in a game that is scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday evening.

The loss drops Thomas More into the loser's bracket. The Saints will face John Carroll University in a match-up slated for 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

The Spartans John Fortunato picked the win on the bump taking his mark to 8-2 for his senior campaign. Fortunato went the distance allowing two runs on eight hits. He walked no one and fanned five.

"He was good, he wasn't great," Case Western Reserve coach Matt Englander said. "He certainly had to be good to get those guys out. Thomas More has a nice club."

Logan Miller was tagged with the loss dropping his record to 7-3 on the year.

The Spartans scored in the home half of the second inning. Antonio Damiano doubled in Jordan Dague to score the first run of the contest. Andrew Frey later hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Damiano.

Thomas More cut the lead in half in the top half of the third inning. Tyler Graber reached on a single and was later plated on a single by Craig Hyson.

CWRU stormed back with three runs in the home half of the frame. After a Kerrigan Cain single up the box Jordan Swisher drilled a two-run homerun to right field. The other run of the inning scored when William Meador scampered home on a wild pitch.

The Spartans tacked on a run in the eighth inning and the Saints plated one in the ninth to make the final score stand at 6-2.
