SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg softball welcomed Case Western Reserve to Springfield on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. When the day concluded, the Tigers had defeated the Spartans in both games by scores of 4-1 and 8-4. Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) was virtually untouchable in game one, as the sophomore surrendered three hits in the game, while striking out four and walking one. In game two, Abby Haab (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) gave up two earned-runs in her five inning pitched to line the Tigers up for their second victory on the day. The two wins put the Tigers at a 16-3-1 mark on the season with NCAC play coming up.

GAME ONE NOTES

• Lauren Buelow (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby), Loren Combs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) and Kaela Hughes (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Watterson) paced the Tigers at the plate with two-hits apiece.
• The Tigers got themselves on the board in the third inning after Combs laced an RBI single to the outfield, scoring Buelow.  
• The Tigers clung to a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning before the Tigers added two more runs as Casey Hobbs (Fairborn, Ohio/Carroll) and Hughes each touched home for Wittenberg.

GAME TWO NOTES

• In game two, Wittenberg exploded for nine hits and eight runs, while only leaving three runners on base.
• Zang's big day continued at the plate in game two, as the sophomore laced a double to deep center field scoring Abby Baker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
• The second inning continued to be productive for the Tigers as Zang and Hughes would both score in the inning, as a single by Hughes plated Zang, and a single by Combs plated Hughes.
• Shannon Lance (Lovland, Ohio/Kings) joined the hit-parade for the home-team in the bottom of the fourth inning, lacing a two-RBI double to the opposite-field plating Combs, and Hughes.

KEY STATS

• The combination of Combs and Hughes produced ten hits for the Tigers, along with three RBI's.
• Zang faced 27 batters in game one, only needing 86 pitches to down Case Western, as the righty hurler tossed 62 total strikes in the victory.
• The Tiger offense produced four extra base hits, including one triple, while swiping six stolen bases on the day.

UP NEXT

• The Tigers return to action April 2 with the opening of NCAC play as the team travels to Deleware, Ohio to take on Ohio Wesleyan University in a double-header set to start at 1:00PM.
