ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The baseball team traveled to St. Louis for their first local game of the season and were defeated 11-5 by nationally ranked Washington-St. Louis.

The Panthers jumped ahead early, getting a leadoff home run from Jesse Getz to give them a 1-0 lead.  NCAA Division III No. 20 Washington came right back, knocking around Greenville starting pitcher Logan Murphy for five first inning runs.

Greenville cut into the deficit in the top of the third when Sam Hodges singled to right field for an RBI.

Washington made the game 7-2 in the bottom of the third, and they gave themselves a 9-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

The Panthers got two runs back in the top of the fifth following a Mike Hardin RBI single and a balk that scored Shane Olmsted.

The Bears made the game 11-4 in the bottom of the fifth, and Greenvile could only muster one more run in the top of the eighth when Travis Ralls hit to the second baseman was misplayed and Max Gabriel scored.

Greenville got two hits and two runs scored from Travis Ralls.

Murphy was the losing pitcher with four innings of work.  He allowed nine runs, but just three were earned.

Austin Rexroad relieved Murphy with a two run inning.

Devin Mayfield, Klaiton Wolff, and Bryce Pearce all added innings of scoreless relief.

The Panthers (1-3) will face DePauw on Friday at 2 p.m. in the first home game of the season at Robert E. Smith Field.
