Joe Reina of Rochester Inducted Into MCC Hall of Fame

From University of Rochester Athletics

University of Rochester baseball head coach Joe Reina is being honored by this Friday by Monroe Community College by being inducted into the Tribunes Athletic Hall of Fame.

Reina played two years for MCC after graduating from Gates Chili HS.  In 1995, he was named an NJCAA 2nd Team All-American and Region III Player of the Year while manning shortstop for the Tribunes.  He played for Monroe under Hall of Fame coach David Chamberlain.

After finishing at MCC, Reina moved on to play Division I baseball at Long Island University where he was a two year starter for the Blackbirds.

After completing his two seasons at LIU, Reina then returned to his alma mater, MCC, to help coach the Tribunes to nearly 100 wins and a runner-up finish in the district championships.

"It is a tremendous honor and humbling to be included in a very exclusive group.  My time at Monroe was some of the best years on my life," said Reina.  "Playing for Coach Chamberlain and his staff was a highlight and has made me into the coach I am today.  I am very excited to share this moment with my family and my children."

Reina has been a coach at Rochester for 12 seasons, compiling an overall record of 251-209-2 for a winning percentage of .546.  He also has a 135-89 record in conference play and has helped Rochester reach the Liberty League playoffs eight times.  He and his staff have earned four Coaching Staff of the Year honors from the conference as well.

The MCC Sports Hall of Fame banquet is slated to begin at 5:30 pm on Friday.  Reina will be inducted alongside MCC womens basketball player Ashley (McMillen) Socola and administrator Richard Ryther.
