From Emory University Athletics

Emory University sophomore Paul Merolla threw a complete-game shutout to lead the Eagles to an 11-0 win over the University of Rochester in seven innings on Wednesday night in Sanford, Florida at the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.

Merolla scattered seven hits and a walk over seven innings with seven strikeouts, delivering the first complete game shutout by an Eagle since Connor Dillman threw a nine inning shutout against Brandeis during the 2012 UAA Championships.  Merolla improved to 1-1 on the season, lowering his ERA to 5.12.

Junior Brett Lake went one-for-four, including a two-RBI single as part of a six-run sixth inning for the Eagles, extending his hitting streak to 20 games.  Lake also stole a pair of bases during the game.

Senior shortstop Jared Kahn drove in a pair of runs during the day with a two-for-three performance, including a triple.  Junior Wes Peacock and freshman Philip Maldari each had a pair of hits as well, while senior Josh Bokor had two RBis in the game.

With the win, Emory now stands at 13-6 overall this season, and at 4-1 at the UAA Championships.  Emory trails first-place Case Western Reserve University by one game in the conference standings with three games left to play.

Rochester starter Matt Todd took the loss in his first appearance of the season, as the Yellowjackets dropped to 0-5 at the UAA Tournament.
