Kerrigan Cain of CWRU Receives Prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Recent Case Western Reserve University graduate and former baseball player Kerrigan Cain (Hartville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) was selected to receive the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, based on his success as a student-athlete, both on and off the field, during his time as a Spartan.

Cain becomes the first player in the history of the CWRU Baseball program to claim the honor, and the 21st Spartan athlete ever to receive the scholarship. He is the 10th Spartan to win an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship since 2006.

Cain played in 38 of the team's 39 games during his senior season, batting .336 with four doubles, 28 runs scored and 24 runs batted in. The left-handed hitting infielder finished his four-year career with Case Western Reserve as a .327 hitter over 145 games played, earning D3Baseball.com All-Mideast Region and All-University Athletic Association Second Team honors during the 2014 season.

Academically, Cain graduated with a 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a chemical engineering major. Earlier in the year, he was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Baseball First Team, and is a three-time UAA All-Academic honoree. Cain also received CWRU's Patricia B. Kilpatrick Award for being a four-year varsity athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average.
