The Spartans opened the scoring with a run in the second inning. Senior Rob Winemiller (Twinsburg, Ohio/University School) singled and sophomore catcher Eric Eldred (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) walked. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Winemiller came home on a sacrifice fly by sophomore rightfielder Antonio Damiano (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast).

The Polar Bears struck back quickly with two runs in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead.

CWRU tied the game in the fourth inning on a two-out error by the shortstop that scored senior designated hitter Jordan Swisher (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland), who opened the inning with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Elred.
