University of Chicago baseball player Kyle Engel earned All-American honors from both D3Baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
Engel became the first Maroon baseball All-American since Mark Mosier in 1997 (Third Team). ABCA/Rawlings made Engel a First Team All-American, while D3Baseball.com awarded him Honorable Mention status.
The senior third baseman posted historic numbers for the Maroons in 2015. He finished the season ranked second in the nation with a .486 batting average. Engel led the country in doubles per game (0.66 per game) while setting a single-season school record with 25. He also set UChicago's school record with 68 hits on the year, while adding four home runs, 43 RBI and six steals.
In UChicago's career records, Engel ranks No. 1 in doubles (50), No. 2 in hits (195), No. 4 in batting average (.388), No. 8 in RBI (113) and No. 8 in home runs (10). He was previously picked as the ABCA Central Region Position Player of the Year on Wednesday.
