Second-Ranked Emory Opens Season with 13-3 Win over Lynchburg

From Emory University Athletics

Emory University junior second baseman Dylan Eisner went four-for-four, and junior shortstop Jack Karras drove in three runs, to lead the second-ranked Eagles to a 13-3 win in seven innings over Lynchburg College to open their 2015 campaign at Chappell Park in Atlanta, Georgia.

Senior pitcher Connor Dillman battled through five innings to earn the win in the contest, yielding just a pair of earned runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out four batters.  Senior Michael Byman wrapped up the game with a pair of scoreless innings to secure the victory.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead against Lynchburg starter Brandon Miller, capitalizing on an error by the Hornets in the first that scored junior David Coble.

Lynchburg would take the lead in the second with a pair of runs, one of which was earned, but Emory rallied for seven runs in the fourth to take the lead for good.  The Eagles sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning, collecting five hits and capitalizing off three more Lynchburg errors in the frame.

The Hornets cut the lead to 8-3 with a run in the fifth, but Emory scored another unearned run in the bottom of the fifth, and added four more in the sixth, including a pair on a single from Karras, taking a 10-run lead.  With the ten-run rule in effect, Lynchburg was unable to score in the seventh, ending the contest.

Senior All-American right fielder Brett Lake added a two-for-four performance on Saturday, including a RBI double that hit off the top of the wall in deep left center field.

Miller took the loss for Lynchburg, which dropped to 0-5 on the season.
