Chris Lowery Leads Four Washington All-Region Baseball Honorees

From Washington University Athletics

Senior outfielder Chris Lowery was named the D3baseball.com Central Region Player of the Year and also earned All-Region First-Team honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings to highlight four All-Region selections for the Washington University in St. Louis baseball team.

Sophomore pitcher Scott Nelson and second baseman CJ Price joined Lowery on the D3baseball.com All-Central Region First Team, while senior first baseman Zack Kessinger was named to the Second Team by the website. It marked the first time in school history the Bears have had three players named to the All-Region First Team in the same season. Nelson (First Team) and Kessinger (Third Team) were also recognized on the All-Central Region Team by ABCA/Rawlings.

The 2015 University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Year and UAA Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player, Lowery led NCAA Division III with 84 hits this season, which set a WashU single-season record. He also set single-season school records for at-bats (204) and RBIs (67) in his senior season. Lowery, a two-time D3baseball.com All-Region Third-Team selection, finished his career as WashU's all-time hits leader with 243. He also ranks fourth in school history in career games played (165) and RBIs (152), fifth in batting average (.384), tied for eighth in doubles (38), and ninth in stolen bases (38) and runs scored (133).

A second-team All-UAA selection, Nelson received First-Team All-Region accolades from both D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings. He finished the season with a perfect 8-0 record, tying the best single-season pitching record in school history. Nelson had a 3.15 ERA in 11 starts, while finishing second on the team with 47 strikeouts. He recorded a complete-game, three-hit shutout and equaled his career-high with eight strikeouts in the Bears' 2-0 victory over Concordia University-Chicago at the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Price earned D3baseball.com All-Central Region First-Team accolades after also being named to the All-UAA First Team this season. One of three players to start all 50 games, he finished second on the team with 54 runs scored and 14 doubles, while batting .344. Price led the team with three triples and 26 walks, and was third with 65 hits and 41 RBIs on the season. The UAA Hitter of the Week April 6, he had 21 multiple-hit games in his sophomore season.

A three-time All-UAA First-Team honoree, Kessinger was named to the D3baseball.com All-Central Region Second Team after earning Third-Team accolades each of the past two seasons. He also received Third-Team honors from ABCA/Rawlings after being named to the All-Region Second Team a year ago. A member of the 2015 UAA Championship All-Tournament Team, he reached base safely in the first 49 games of the season, and finished with a streak of 54 consecutive games reaching base, which is the third-longest such streak in NCAA Division III history. Kessinger set a WashU single-season record with 405 putouts, and had just one error in 426 chances in 2015. He started all 174 career games played for the Bears, the most in school history, and became WashU's all-time career leader in RBIs (162) during the NCAA Midwest Regional. Kessinger also finished his career second in school history in career hits (237), fourth in doubles (45) and tied for 10th in runs scored (124).

WashU finished the season with a 34-16 record, tying the program's single-season wins record. The Bears earned a share of the UAA Championship, and advanced to the NCAA Regional for the ninth time in school history.
