Kyle Monk of Emory Named NYCBL Reliever of the Year

Kyle Monk, who will be a junior in 2015-16, was named the New York Collegiate Baseball League’s Reliever of the Year this past summer. Monk tied a league record with 13 saves for the Geneva Twins.

Monk earned 10 first place votes and finished with 79 points in the voting. For the season, he struck out 27 batters in 23 innings for the Twins and held opponents to a .217 batting average, helping the team to a second place finish in the Western Division with a 27-13 record and home-field advantage in the playoffs.

The righty had a streak of 11 straight appearances (11 innings) where he did not allow a run and converted six saves during that stretch to help Geneva clinch a playoff berth. During the year, Monk had eight appearances where he retired every batter he faced.

This past season with Emory, the Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. native set a school record with 11 saves and tied the career saves mark with 18. He was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region Third Team, D3Baseball.com’s All-South Second Team, selected to the All-University Athletic Association’s Second Team and was named to the NCAA South Regional Tournament Team.
