NYU Participates in Community Service

From NYU Athletics

Head Coach Doug Kimbler and players  Michael Anasasiou  and  Matthew Millus  of the New York University men's baseball team volunteered at the Day of Thanks Celebration on Tuesday, November 25, at Public School 811, in Manhattan.

PS 811, the Mickey Mantle School, serves 350-400 students with severe disabilities in grades Pre-K to eight. For many of the students, the Day of Thanks Celebration is the only Thanksgiving meal they will have. New York Empire Baseball helped to set up the event and coordinate with the Mickey Mantle School and Coach Kimbler.

The NYU contingent helped prepare the lunchroom, then served lunch to the students and helped clean up after the meal was over.

"There is no better exercise for the heart than reaching down and helping to lift people up," Kimbler said. "Hopefully, we put smiles on a lot of kids' faces today."

Celebrity chef Marc Murphy served as the Head Chef for the event. Murphy, a New York resident, has appeared on the Food Network a number of times, most notably as a judge on the show Chopped.
