The New York Univeristy baseball team picked up its first home victory since 1973 on Wednesday, April 1, defeating John Jay College 7-2 at MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY.

Varsity baseball returned to NYU this season after a 41-year hiatus. The Violets' last home win came on May 6, 1973. 

On Wednesday, the Violets (6-12) took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the first inning when Christian Bloom scored on a John Jay (0-9) error.

NYU never trailed at any point in the contest.

Jarrett Weiss was on the mound for NYU in his second start of the season, tossing 5.0 innings of near-flawless ball. The sophomore picked up his first victory of the year, striking out four batters and allowing one hit to the final batter he faced in the top of the sixth.

NYU got another two runs across in the home half of the second courtesy of two Bloodhound errors and a Jeremy Wayne single. The Violets then scored a run in the bottom of the fourth on Michael Vokulich's RBI double. The squad plated two more in the following inning as Jonathan Iaione crossed on a passed ball and Chase Denison doubled home David Wagner.

John Jay was able to get runs across in the top half of both the sixth and seventh innings, but NYU got one back in the bottom of the eighth for the final run of the game.

NOTABLES:

- Matthew Millus tossed the final two innings for NYU, allowing one hit and striking out two.

- Bloom finished 1-for-3 at the plate with three runs, two walks and two stolen bases.

- Iaione was 2-for-3 with one run, one RBI and two walks.

- Denison was 2-for-4 wth a run scored, an RBI, a stolen base, and a double.

- NYU pitchers combined for a walkless effort against John Jay.
