Dan Warren Tosses Shutout as Rochester Tops Brandeis 3-0

From University of Rochester Athletics

Junior pitcher Dan Warren tossed a complete game shutout as the University of Rochester baseball team topped Brandeis University 3-0 in UAA Tournament action on Friday evening at Sanford Memorial Stadium.

Warren bounced back after a rocky first start to the season, throwing nine innings, scattering eight hits, walking one and striking out eight.  The eight K's for Warren matches his career high which was set one year ago to the day, when he struck out eight Case Western Reserve batters on March 13, 2014.

The shutout the third of Warren's career and second at the UAA Tournament.

Rochester moves to 3-3 overall and 3-3 in the UAA with its second straight win.  Brandeis is 2-10 overall and 0-6 in the UAA.

Seven of the nine UR starters recorded at least one hit while Lance Hamilton led the way with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.  Nolan Schultz and Brendan Garry kept their strong starts to the season going with 2-for-4 days while also adding an RBI.

After the Judges left two runners on in the top of the third inning, Rochester capitalized on two sacrifices to get on the board first.  Hamilton and Brian Munoz led off the inning with singles.  They were then sacrificed up a base by Sam Slutsky.  Owen Gabbey then flied out to center, brining in Hamilton for the games first score.

The Yellowjackets would then boost the lead to 3-0 in the seventh inning.  Freshman Tyler Schmidt led off the inning with a base hit.  After a fielders choice from Matt Todd, Josh Ludwig singled to get two on with one out.  Schultz then doubled down the right field line and Garry followed up with an RBI single to give Rochester some breathing room.

Warren pitched around two straight hits to leadoff the bottom of the 7th inning and only allowed one base runner over the final 10 batters to seal the victory, his first of the season.

Brandeis starter Kyle Brenner also pitched a complete game, allowing 11 hits, 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3.  Ryan Tettemer led the Judges with a 3-for-4 day at the plate while Liam O'Connor was 2-for-4.
