Brandeis Returns to Postseason as ECAC Tournament Fifth Seed

From Brandeis University Athletics

The Brandeis University baseball team has earned its first post-season berth since 2011 today. The Judges (19-16-1) have been selected as the fifth seed in the 2016 ECAC Division III New England tournament and will travel to fourth-seeded Massachusetts Maritime Academy  on Thursday, May 12, for a 4 p.m. start.

Under first-year head coach Derek Carlson '91, the Brandeis baseball team won 11 of its last 12 games to finish with their highest win total since 2011, when the Judges went 24-19 and also were selected to the ECAC tournament. This is the Judges' 10th trip to ECACs. They won tournament titles in 1988 and 2003.

Mass. Maritime finished as runner-up in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 23-15 record. Brandeis is 13-2 all-time against Mass. Maritime, but the two teams haven't met since 1990. The Buccaneers are making their ninth ECAC tournament appearance, including an appearance in the finals last season.
