Emory Closes Out UAA Tournament with 9-3 Win Over Brandeis

The third-ranked Emory University baseball team scored seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings to break open a tie game en route to a 9-3 win over Brandeis University in the final game of the 2016 UAA Baseball Championships in Sanford, FL. The Eagles ended the week-long conference tournament with a 5-3 record, finishing one game behind UAA Champion Washington University (6-2).

Senior Dylan Eisner went 2-for-3 and had a career-high four RBI to lead the Emory (15-5) offense. Junior Brian Hernandez collected two hits in three at bats and drove in his team-leading 21st run on the season. Freshmen David Draper and Josh Rosenblatt both picked up their first career hits in the victory.

On the mound, freshman Billy Dimlow won his fourth game of the season, improving to 4-0, tossing five innings against the Judges (5-6). Dimlow gave up two runs on seven hits, striking out five hitters to go along with no walks.

Hernandez and Eisner gave Emory an early 2-0 lead in the third inning with back-to-back hits. Hernandez had a bloop single to left center to score junior Wilson Morganand Eisner followed with double to deep left center to bring home Hernandez.

After Brandeis tied the score at 2-2 with one run in both the third and fourth innings, the Eagles plated five in the top of the fifth to go in front 7-2 with the big blow coming from Eisner who had a two-run double that went to the left center field wall, scoring Hernandez and Morgan.

Eisner had another RBI in the sixth with a sac fly as senior David Coble scored on a foul out on the third base side. Morgan scored the second run of the frame and ninth of the game, coming across home plate on a passed ball to make it 9-2.

The Emory relief corps of juniors Luke Emmett, Andrew Doestch and sophomores Danny Kerning and Rhett Stuart held the Judges to just one run in the final four innings as the Blue and Gold closed out Brandeis 9-3.
