Seventh Inning Rally Keys Emory to Sixth Win in a Row

The #3 Emory University baseball team used a six-run seventh inning to erase a 5-2 deficit en route to the 8-6 victory to complete the series sweep over Huntingdon College. The victory marked the sixth straight win for the Eagles who now sit at 9-2 and are off to their best start of a season since the 2008 campaign.

Trailing 5-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, Emory sent 11 batters to plate, six of which came around to score, as the Eagles went from three runs down to ahead by three runs. Senior Dylan Eisner provided the big blow in the inning, singling through the right side with the bases loaded and two outs. His single brought home senior David Coble and freshman Jackson Grayson to make it 6-5 in favor of the home team. Emory tacked on two more runs before recording the final out of the frame as junior Wilson Morganscored an errant pickoff throw trying to nail Eisner at first then Eisner came around to score on two wild pitches.

Huntingdon got a run back in the eighth off reliever Luke Emmett as Mason Thorneberry came home on a delayed steal attempt as his teammate Gunnar Peters was out trying to steal second. The second steal of home by the Hawks in the ballgame.

Junior Kyle Monk came on to record another 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts for his fourth save of the game.

At the plate, Eisner and sophomore Nick Chambers both collected two hits and drove in two runs. Morgan ran his hitting streak to five games, going 1-for-4 with a run. Coble was 1-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and a walk and junior Brian Hernandez had the other RBI for the Eagles.

Senior Paul Merolla was awarded his first win of the season, going 2.2 innings in relief of starter Billy Dimlow who lasted just 4.1 innings and allowed four runs (two earned). Merolla gave up one run on three hits in his outing, striking out two walking two.
