From Emory University Athletics

The Emory University baseball team rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to defeat ninth-ranked Shenandoah University, 14-7, to advance to the 2016 NCAA Division III South Regional Championship which will be held on Sunday, May 22nd at William R. Bowdoin Field on the campus of Berry College in Mount Berry, GA.

Sophomore Bubby Terp continued his torrid pace at the plate, going 3-for-5 with another four RBI and two runs scored. Through his first three career regional contests, Terp is scorching hot, going 9-for-13 (.692) with one double, one home run and has driven in an absurd 11 runs. Junior Chris Young collected his first career four-hit game, going 4-for-5 with one RBI and three runs scored. With the four hits, Young pushed his team-leading hit streak to 11 games.

Senior Dylan Eisner, junior Brian Hernandez, sophomore Nick Chambers each added two RBI for the Eagles and junior Philip Maldari picked up an RBI as well in the contest.

Junior Luke Emmett was terrific in relief, tossing 2.2 hitless innings with four strikeouts and just two walks to earn his third victory of the season. Junior Kyle Monk closed out the game with a perfect 1.2 innings and struck out three hitters. Monk has now pitched 22.2 consecutive innings without allowing a run including 5.2 innings during regional play, lowering his ERA to 1.27 for the season.

Emory fell behind 6-0 after an inning and a half of play as the Hornets roughed up starter freshman Billy Dimlow to the tune of six runs on nine hits over the two innings.

However after a 45-minute weather delay, Emory changed the perplexion of the game by sending 11 men to the plate in a seven run third inning to take the lead at 7-6. Terp and Chambers each drove in a pair of runs in the frame with back-to-back hits. First, Terp singled through the left side to bring home Eisner and junior Wilson Morgan before Chambers doubled down the left field line to put the Eagles ahead as Terp and Maldari scored on the plate.

Emory tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning as Eisner singled up the middle to plate Hernandez and senior David Coble. Terp added another RBI, this time with a single through the right side, scoring Eisner from second.

The Eagles made it 11-6 in the fifth inning as Hernandez singled down the line to bring home Young from second base. Emory doubled up the Hornets in the seventh inning as Young scored on a wild pitch.

After Shenandoah made it 12-7 in the top of eighth, plating a run off sophomore Mack Wilkins, Emory plated two more runs in the bottom of the inning to provide the 14-7 final margin. Terp doubled to left to score freshman Jackson Grayson and Young then doubled down the left field line two batters later to score Terp.

On Sunday, Emory will be making its third straight South Regional Championship and is just one win shy from making its third consecutive trip to the College World Series in Appleton, WI. The winner of tonight's Shenandoah/Birmingham Southern matchup will have to defeat the Eagles twice on Sunday to win the regional championship.
