From NYU Athletics

The New York University baseball team (17-21) swept Lehman College (8-25) in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30, at MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY.

The Violets defeated the Lightning 6-2 in the first game before winning 10-4 in the second contest.

In the first matchup, Chase Denison pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on five hits, while striking out four.

"From the start, Chase set the tone for us to have a good day," said Head Coach Douglas Kimbler. "He has pitched very well for many outings now, and guys come to the park confident we will win when he is on the mound. That feeling is a great feeling."

The Violets grabbed the early lead in the bottom of the first inning as Adrian Spitz and Jonathan Iaione started off the game with a pair of singles. Spitz scored on an RBI groundout from Colman Hendershot and Iaione scored on an RBI single from Jack Elias, giving NYU the lead which they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

Michael Vokulich took the mound for the Violets in the second game. The right-hander pitched three innings while giving up three earned runs on five hits before being relieved by Jack Kurtenbach.

Trailing 3-1, NYU's bats came to life in the bottom of the fourth as Jack Walter's two-run double highlighted a five-run rally.

NYU pulled away in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four more. Iaione delivered the big blow with a two-run single.

"We are getting much better at the little things," continued Kimbler. "Over the last three games, we have had two out hits, our relievers have come in and pitched well, and we have played solid defense."
