Senior outfielder Matt Todd capped a strong day at the plate with an RBI double in the sixth inning to lift the University of Rochester baseball team to a key regional win by a 3-2 score over the College at Brockport on Tuesday evening at Towers Field.
 
Todd finished 3 for 4 on the day with two doubles, a triple, two RBI and a run scored, having a hand in all three of Rochester's runs.
 
The win pushes UR's record above .500 to 5-4 while Brockport falls to 12-5 on the season.

Rochester also got a strong pitching effort from four arms over the nine innings.  Starter John Ghyzel went four innings, allowed two hits and one run.  Luke Meyerson pitched the next three and allowed one run on two hits as well.  Michael Mondon pitched a scoreless 8th with two strikeouts and Evan Janifer picked up his second save with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.
 
Overall, Brockport was held to just five hits on the day, two coming off the bat of Greg Ruddy who ended 2 for 4.  On the mound, starter Derick Fera scattered eight hits in five innings, allowed two runs while striking out four.
 
The visiting Golden Eagles got the scoring started in the top of the third inning when Wesley Burghardt drew a bases loaded walk.
 
Rochester took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning behind extra base hits from Todd and Jake Meyerson.  Todd tripled to right bringing in Sam Steele and Meyerson plated Todd with a double to left center.
 
In the next half inning, Brockport pulled even with a two-out, RBI single from Jack Wallwork.
 
UR would respond with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth though, with Todd blooping in a line drive double down the left field line, scoring teammate Grant Kilmer who reached on a leadoff walk.
 
Brockport had a chance to tie it in the 8th, after a 'Jacket error put two runners on with one out, but Mondon withstood the rally, striking out the next two batters to end the frame.
 
Senior Steve Eychner and freshman Aiden Finch each went 2 for 4 at the plate for Rochester.
