Quick Start Fuels Rochester Win Over D'Youville

A big first inning lifted the University of Rochester baseball team to a 13-2 victory over visiting D'Youville College on Thursday evening at Towers Field.
 
The Yellowjackets (14-12) plated six runs in the bottom of the first and sent a total of 11 batters to the plate and cruised to the teams fourth straight win.  The loss drops D'Youville to 2-22 on the season.
 
Rochester's bats were strong for the second straight game, as in two games this week, the Yellowjackets have scored 31 runs, backing up an 18-6 victory over Medaille on Tuesday.

UR's middle of the lineup did most of the damage as freshman Aiden Finch was 3-5 with a triple, home run, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored.  It was the second straight game with a homer for Finch.  Senior Nolan Schultz recorded a career-high tying four hits, going 4-6 with a double, 3 RBI and a run.
 
Other offensive highlights included Matt Todd going 2-4 with a double, 2 RBI, a run and 2 stolen bases and Steve Eychner going 2-3 with three runs and a stolen base.  Overall, Rochester swiped seven bases, including two by Todd, Owen Gabbey and Grant Kilmer.
 
On the mound, Rochester pitchers combined to allowed just four hits to the Spartans and surrendered two runs, one of which was unearned.  Senior Andrew Crean got the start and the win, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.  Freshman Tyler McConway wen the next three frames and scattered two hits while striking out three.  Andrew Klee, Michael Lee, Kevin Ho and Grant Petito then each threw one inning of relief to close it out.  Ho's inning featured three strikeouts for the freshman.
