Kyle Monk and Jackson Weeg of Emory Named D3Baseball.com Preseason All-Americans

From Emory University Athletics

Seniors Kyle Monk and Jackson Weeg have been selected to the D3Baseball.com Preseason All-America Second Team as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.

Monk turned in his best season to date in 2016, earning numerous accolades including D3Baseball.com All-America Honorable Mention honors. Monk did not allow a run in 20 of his 27 relief appearances, finishing the year with a team-best 1.36 earned-run average, 11 saves with a 4-3 won-loss ledger and racked up 42 strikeouts compared to 14 walks in 46.1 innings pitched. He became the program's all-time leader in saves with a one-out save against Pacific (Ore.) on February 12th and begins the season as the NCAA Division III active career leader with 29.

Weeg followed up his outstanding breakout sophomore season with a tremendous junior campaign, being named to the All-UAA First Team as well as the D3Baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams. In a team-high 94.2 innings pitched, Weeg went 7-1 with a 2.28 ERA while punching out a UAA-leading 78 batters. The Woodstock, GA native added UAA All-Tournament Team kudos after working into the ninth inning in both contests against WashU, allowing just two runs in 16.2 innings with nine Ks and was named to the D3Baseball.com All-Tournament Team for the College World Series after tossing his first career complete game, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out seven in a 1-0 defeat to top-ranked SUNY-Cortland on May 27th.

Weeg becomes the first Emory player in school history to be named to the D3Baseball.com Preseason All-America team twice after he was selected to the First Team prior to last season. Monk, meanwhile, is just the fourth Eagle to earn D3Baseball Preseason All-America recognition joining Weeg, Brett Lake (2015) and Joe Roth (2008). D3Baseball.com began naming Preseason All-America Teams in 2008.
