NYU Defeats CCNY, 16-4

From NYU Athletics

The New York University baseball team defeated the City College of New York 16-4 on Wednesday, April 26, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.

NYU (17-12) scored twice in the first inning and never looked back, adding at least one run in each of the following six innings.

The Violets' 16 runs were their third-most of the season and most since they scored 17 in their fifth game of the season against the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Jonathan Iaione led the Violets' offense, going 3-for-3 at the plate and scoring three runs while driving in three more. Jack Elias (3-for-5) and Grant Otto (2-for-3) also had multi-hit games for NYU.

"We got back to taking advantage of our opponents' mistakes and getting deep into counts," said NYU Assistant Coach Aaron Walsh. "We also did a great job hitting with two outs."

Sal Cammisuli started the game on the mound for NYU and tossed two shutout innings before the Violets' bullpen took over. Six different Violets' pitchers split the final seven innings including Jarret Weiss and Michael Anastasiou, who pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

"We struggled throwing strike one, but were able to overcome it and fight back into counts for a positive outcome," added Walsh.

Anthony Cacchione was CCNY's (8-17) top offensive player, recording hits in all three of his at bats.
