From NYU Athletics
The New York University baseball team defeated visiting York College of Pennsylvania 10-3 on Saturday, May 6, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
The victory was NYU's third-straight and its 22nd of the season, which is the most in the three-year Division III history of the program.
Cameron Serapilio-Frank started on the mound for the Violets and was once again effective, tossing seven innings and allowing just three runs while striking out four Spartans (18-22). The NYU offense pounded out 17 hits in the win to give Serapilio-Frank a lot to work with.
"I felt great out there today and have over my last few starts," said Serapilio-Frank, a junior captain. "It makes it way easier on the pitchers when our offense does what they did today."
NYU scored four runs in the third inning and never looked back. The Violets added three more in the fifth, one in the seventh and two more in the eighth inning. York did answer NYU's four-run third with a pair of runs in the fourth to cut its deficit in half, but the Spartans never got any closer.
Six different Violets recorded multi-hit games, with Jack Walter, Colman Hendershot, Jonathan Iaione, and Will McKenna leading the way with three each. Hendershot led NYU with three RBIs and now has 50 for the season.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- The victory was the ninth of Serapilio-Frank's career and ties the most in a season (four) for the junior.
- Coltrane Tait recorded a hit in the eighth inning to extend his hit streak to eight games.
- Iaione tallied at least three hits for the ninth time this season.
- Jarret Weiss struck out three in 1.2 innings of work out of the bullpen before Paul Gadaleta came on to get the final out.
"We just need to go out and keep winning and end this season on a great note," concluded Serapilio-Frank.
