Maroons Routs D'Youville, 13-1

The University of Chicago baseball team were sharp at the plate and on the mound in a 13-1 victory against D'Youville College on Friday.

The Maroons improved to 6-4 and the Spartans dropped to 1-8.

Jacob Petersen was in control all afternoon as the freshman pitcher hurled his first collegiate complete game. He went all seven innings with five strikeouts, five hits allowed and no walks.

Sophomore outfielder Connor Hickey put up a career-best performance as well. All three of his hits went for extra bases – two doubles and one home run for three total RBI. Sophomore catcher Ian Bohn also got in on the long ball act with a home run while going 2-for-4. Freshman Payton Jancsy was productive as well, going 2-for-2 with a triple, a RBI and a stolen base.

Senior first baseman Thomas Prescott kept the hit parade coming with three in four at-bats and one RBI. Junior outfielder Maximiliano Larsen batted 2-for-3 with a two-run double.

UChicago trailed 1-0 early but then evened the game up in the bottom of the second. Then the Maroons broke it open with five runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth. One run in the fifth and three in the sixth closed out the day's scoring.
