Senior Tate Maider went 2-for-3 with a homerun and tied his career-high with four RBIs to lead the Washington University in St. Louis baseball team to a 10-2 win over Fontbonne University Wednesday in the Wydown Showdown at Kelly Field in St. Louis.

WashU improved to 5-3 with the win, while Fontbonne lost its third-straight game and dropped to 1-9. 

Fontbonne jumped in front with a pair of runs in the top of the third off WashU freshman starting pitcher John Brinkman. The Bears answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning after senior Christian Santos roped an RBI single up the middle and then Brinkman followed with a deep two-RBI double in the left-center gap.

Maider laced a double down the left field line in the bottom of the fourth scoring junior Conor O'Hara to up the lead to 4-2. The Bears tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a two-run homerun by Maider. The homerun was Maider's second of the season and fifth of his career. 

Santos doubled in a run in the sixth and then Maider drove in a run with a sac fly to push the WashU lead to 9-2.

Brinkman (1-0) made his first career start allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) in five innings. He also struck out four and walked two. Seniors Matt Clohisy (three innings, one hit) and Bill Heisler (one inning) allowed just one hit in four innings of relief.

Santos was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, while senior Ben Browdy was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and three walks and Brinkman was 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs. The Bears had 11 hits in the win.
