From Washington University Athletics
Washington University in St. Louis baseball's Ben Browdy, Zack Kotin, Brad Margolin and Jake Mintz were selected to the 2017 Jewish Sports Review Baseball All-America First Team, as announced by the publication.
Browdy and Margolin were recipients of the honor for the second straight season, while Kotin and Mintz earned the accolade for the first time.
Ben Browdy
Browdy, a 2017 and 2016 Jewish Sports Review First Team All-American, started all 37 games and led the team in batting (.372), hits (55), doubles (16) and homeruns (four) while knocking in 33 RBIs. He was also named to the D3baseball.com All-Central Region Second Team and ABCA/Rawlings Third Team. The Deerfield, Ill.-native concluded his career with the 10th most doubles in program history (37). Browdy set a WashU record with a 37 game-hit streak that spanned from April 16, 2016 – April 2, 2017. He was named the UAA Hitter of the Week once and earned all-University Athletic Association (UAA) First Team honors.
Zack Kotin
Kotin, a 2017 Jewish Sports Review First Team All-American and an all-UAA second team honoree, concluded the year with a 5-2 record and a 2.40 ERA. In 45 innings pitched, he allowed 33 hits and 13 walks while striking out 46. Kotin was named the UAA Pitcher of the Week after throwing seven hitless and scoreless innings of baseball against Centenary (N.J.) on March 14 without issuing a walk compared to five strikeouts for a 5-0 WashU victory.
Brad Margolin
Margolin was named to the following All-America teams: Jewish Sports Review First Team, ABCA/Rawlings Second Team and D3baseball.com honorable mention. He finished the season with a 9-2 record, a 1.98 ERA during 82 innings pitched, allowing 56 hits and seven walks while striking out 69 batters. Margolin concluded his career within the top-10 in WashU's record book of wins (23 – fourth), innings pitched (237 – sixth) and earned run average (2.39 – seventh). He had one stretch during the 2017 season in which he threw three consecutive complete game shutouts against UAA opponents to pick up the UAA Pitcher of the Week honor all three times in route to earning UAA Co-Pitcher of the Year.
Margolin was also the recipient of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Gold Glove award for NCAA Division III pitchers. He finished the season with a .969 fielding percentage, committing a single error in 32 chances while also successfully picking off seven base runners this year.
Jake Mintz
Mintz, a Jewish Sports Review First Team All-American was also named to the D3baseball.com All-Central Region Second Team and all-UAA Second Team. In his final season with the Bears, he set personal bests in ERA (0.87), innings pitched (31), wins (4), saves (4) and strikeouts (29). Mintz also held opponents to a .140 batting average with 14 hits and 13 walks. On April 4, he was selected to D3baseball.com's National Team of the Week along with Margolin after multiple dominant performances.
