From Emory University Athletics
The Emory University Baseball team began the weekend series against Brandeis University on a strong note, taking both games of the Friday doubleheader to improve to 15-15 on the season and 6-4 in conference play. The Judges have now dropped 10 straight to fall to 2-16 on the campaign and 0-6 in UAA action.
Game 1 – Emory 8, Brandeis 4
The Eagles scored seven unanswered runs en route to taking the series opener by four runs over the Judges.
Six different Eagles registered multi-hit games with senior Bubby Terp going 3-for-5 including a two-run double in Emory's four-run sixth inning to bust open the ballgame. Terp was one of three Eagles to drive in two in the game with sophomore Richard Brereton and Nick Chambers adding multi-RBI efforts.
Brereton tied the game at 1-1 in the third with a double to left to score junior NJ Kim. He later scored the go-ahead run in the inning, crossing the plate on a passed ball. The Darien, CT native added a win on the mound, spinning seven innings and giving up three runs (two ER) on six hits and three walks while striking out six. The win was the third consecutive for the sophomore as he improved to 4-3 overall as well as moving to 3-0 in UAA outings.
Freshman Christian Bradley posted his team-leading third save of the year, recoding the final two outs in the ninth.
Game 2 – Emory 5, Brandeis 2
The Emory pitching staff did a fantastic job at limiting the Judges to just two runs in the second game of the afternoon as Brandeis left a total of 18 runners on base over the nine frames.
Freshman Jared Gaer earned his second win of the season, tossing a 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. Senior Rhett Stuart nailed down his second save with a scoreless ninth, allowing just one hit in the outing. Sophomore Charlie Redovian recorded perhaps the biggest out in the game as he struck out Dan O'Leary on three pitches with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh and Emory in front 3-2.
Terp registered his second straight two RBI game, going 3-for-5 and driving in both runs with a single in the eighth inning that made it a three-run lead.
After the Eagles tied the score at two in the fifth with a run-scoring double by Kim, junior Eric Terry put Emory in front with single to right center in the sixth, plating Chambers with the go-ahead run.
