From Emory University Athletics
The Emory University Baseball team completed its four-game sweep of University Athletic Association foe Brandeis University on Saturday afternoon, taking the final two games of the series by 10-4 and 5-2 margins at Chappell Park in Atlanta. The Eagles move past the .500 mark with the two wins, improving to 17-15 whereas the Judges drop to 2-18 overall.
Game 1 – Emory 10, Brandeis 4
Sophomore James Robertson was outstanding for the Eagles in the first game of the doubleheader, spinning eight innings of one-run ball while striking out a career-high 10 batters. He allowed the single run on three hits and three walks as he moved to 2-3 on the season.
Emory supplied Robertson with all the run support he needed in the first inning, scoring three times in the opening frame with the big blow coming on a two-run triple by senior Nick Chambers. Chambers finished the game with a game-high three RBI and added a walk, stolen base and two runs scored.
Sophomore Christopher Stern racked up three hits as he went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs. Freshman Michael Edelman also had a pair of RBI in the game as he finished 2-for-5 in the contest.
Game 2 – Emory 5, Brandeis 2
The Eagles' bullpen held the Judges to no runs through the final eight innings of the second game of the twin bill to win the series finale 5-2. After earning the save in the first game of the series on Friday, freshman Christian Bradley tossed four scoreless innings out of the pen to record his third win of the campaign. Bradley limited Brandeis to just two hits and two walks in his four innings of work.
After working out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth inning, junior Charlie Redovian retired the Judges in order in the ninth to collect the first save of his collegiate career.
Trailing 2-0 after one inning, the Eagles scored twice in their half of the first to tie the game at 2-2. Stern plated Chambers with a single through the right side before senior Bubby Terp was forced home with the tying run as freshman Jack Rubenstein was hit by a pitch.
Emory took the lead with another RBI by Rubenstein in the third as he brought home Terp with a single up the middle. The Eagles tacked on insurance runs in both the sixth and seventh innings on a RBI single by sophomore Richard Brereton and a sac fly by Rubenstein.
Rubenstein was 1-for-3 with a career-high three RBI. Brereton collected a game-high three hits and added a walk.
