The Emory University Baseball team earned the series win over Washington University as the two teams split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta. With the split, the Eagles moved to 13-14 on the season with the Bears dropping to 15-12. Both teams sit at 4-4 in UAA action and stand just three games back of Case Western Reserve with eight conference games remaining.
Game One – WashU 11, Emory 7
The Bears scored in all but two innings to take the first game of the day by an 11-7 margin. Emory cut the deficit to one after falling behind 7-2 but four WashU runs over the final three innings of play, including a three run ninth, sealed the game for the visitors.
Senior Bubby Terp drove in a game-high four runs in a 2-for-5 effort with junior NJ Kim adding two hits including a two-run double in the fifth inning that cut the WashU lead to 7-6.
The Bears' Tim Tague allowed three runs, two earned, in 4.1 innings of relief to record his third win of the season. Sophomore James Robertson fell to 1-3 on the season as he lasted just 2.2 innings with Washington tagging him for three runs on five hits.
Game Two – Emory 4, WashU 0
Senior Mack Wilkins and freshman Christian Bradley combined for the four hit shutout as the Eagles earned the series clinching win the second game of the double dip.
Wilkins started the ballgame, allowing three hits and four walks in 4.2 innings of work while striking out six. Bradley was called upon for the final 13 outs after tossing two innings previously in game one of the doubleheader. Bradley surrendered just one baserunner in his second appearance of the day, allowing a two-out single in the seventh.
The Eagles recorded all the run support they needed in the contest with two runs in both the first and fourth frames. In the first, junior Eric Terry worked a bases loaded walk and later in the inning, classmate Michael Wilson scored as sophomore Christopher Stern reached on a fielder's choice to third. Emory added a pair of unearned runs in the fourth with sophomore Ryan Adelman collected the lone RBI in the inning, driving in Stern with a fielder's choice to short.
