Case Western Reserve University junior second baseman Rocco Maue was selected as an infielder on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Baseball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Maue is one of four CWRU student-athletes to be named an Academic All-American this academic year, and becomes one out of the 101 student-athletes in the history of Case Western Reserve athletics to receive the honor, which includes 48 first team selections. He is the sixth CWRU baseball player to be named to the Academic All-America team, joining Tom Mager (1997 First Team), John Fortunado (2014 First Team), Andrew Frey (2014 Second Team), Kerrigan Cain (2015 First Team) and Connor Tagg (2016 Second Team).
Academically, Maue has recorded a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering major during his career at Case Western Reserve. He has received UAA Spring All-Academic recognition twice during his collegiate career.
He had a breakout season on the field in 2018, earning a spot on the D3baseball.com All-America First Team and the ABCA/ Rawlings All-America Third Team. An All-Mideast Region First Team selection by both D3baseball.com and the ABCA as well, Maue was named the University Athletic Association Position Player of the Year and earned all-conference first team honors in 2018 after batting .358 with a program-record 11 home runs (19th in Division III) and 35 runs batted in. He also led all UAA players with 26 stolen bases (28th in Division III) on 27 attempts and was second in the conference and 39th in Division III with 52 runs scored during the campaign. Maue led the team with 16 multiple-hit games during the year, including a three-home run, five-hit game against Roger Williams in March, and registered a team-long 14 game hitting streak during the campaign.
In addition to his work at the plate, Maue committed just five errors in the field throughout the year, registering a .977 fielding percentage, while helping to turn 32 double plays. He was named the UAA Hitter of the Week on three occasions during the year and received D3baseball.com Team of the Week recognition on March 20th.
Maue earned a spot on the Academic All-America ballot after received Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA earlier in the year.
Case Western Reserve finished the 2018 season with a 29-10 record, claiming the third UAA Championship overall and first outright title in program history.
