Colman Hendershot's Three Home Runs Carry NYU Past Brandeis

From NYU Athletics

Colman Hendershot hit three home runs and knocked in seven runs as the New York University baseball team rolled past host Brandeis University, 12-7, on Friday, April 20, in the first of four University Athletic Association (UAA) games scheduled for this weekend in Waltham, MA.

NYU (23-7) scored six runs in the fifth inning to turn a 2-2 tie into a comfortable 8-2 lead over the Judges (2-19).

Hendershot knocked in the first run of the afternoon as he scored Jack Walter with a double in the top of the first inning.

Brandeis scored twice in the home half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead, which was its only advantage of the contest. The lead was short-lived, however, as Hendershot drilled a pitch over the left-centerfield wall in the fourth inning to tie the contest at 2-2.

The six, fifth-inning runs came on five hits with the big blow being a three-run home run from Hendershot. This time the ball went over the centerfield wall and scored Francis Prior and Walter.

Hendershot walked up to the plate again in the sixth inning with Prior on base and hit a home run in his third-straight at bat. The two-run shot to left field was his team-high sixth of the season.

Brandeis cut a 10-2 NYU lead in half with four unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh, but 10-6 would be as close as the Judges could make the score. The Violets tallied insurance runs in the eighth and ninth inning to make the final score 12-6.

Cameron Serapilio-Frank pitched 6.2 innings en route to his UAA-best eighth win (8-0) of the season. Serapilio-Frank only allowed two earned runs and struck out a pair before handing the ball to Braeden Duffand Matthew Millus to seal the victory.

NOTABLES:

- Walter, Coltrane Tait and Cooper Halpern each recorded two hits in the win.

- The three home runs in one game and six on the season are both career highs for Hendershot. Friday also marked the 13th time this season he knocked in at least two runs.

- Prior, Walter and Hendershot combined to score eight of the Violets' 12 runs.
