NYU Clinches First-Ever UAA Series Victory

NYU Clinches First-Ever UAA Series Victory

From NYU Athletics

One day after establishing a new modern day wins record, the New York University baseball team made more history on Sunday, April 22, with a 9-8 victory over Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.

The win was the Violets' (25-8) third in the four-game series against the Judges (3-21) and marks the first-ever University Athletic Association (UAA) series victory for the program.

NYU scored five times in the top of the first inning to grab a commanding lead and never looked back en route to the win. Coltrane Tait and Francis Prior each had 2-RBI hits in the first inning as NYU scored in the first inning for the fifth-straight game.

Brandeis rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but three more NYU runs in the fourth extended the visitor's advantage to six, 8-2. The big blow in the inning was a 2-RBI double off the bat of Chris Cassandra.

Ryan McLaughlin's first-career home run gave NYU a 9-2 lead in the seventh inning, but four Judges runs in the home half of the inning closed the gap to 9-6.

Brandeis scored two more times in their final at bat, but senior closer Matthew Millus was able to get a fly ball with two outs and the tying runner at second base to secure the victory and the first-ever UAA series win for the program.

McLaughlin was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in the win, joining Cassandra, Prior and Tait with two RBI each.

Sal Cammisuli started the game on the mound for the Violets and earned the win to improve to 5-1 this season. The sophomore struck out six hitters in 5.0+ innings of work.
