NYU Tops Emory on Senior Day

From NYU Athletics

The New York University baseball team defeated Emory University 11-7  in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, April 29, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.

With the win, NYU improved to 27-11 overall and 6-10 in UAA action, while the Eagles record now stands at 20-18 on the season and 11-5 in UAA play.

Emory opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but NYU scored five of its own in the bottom of the inning and followed it up with a five-run second inning to take control of the game early.

The five-run first inning was highlighted by a 2-RBI single from David Conforti that broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Violets a lead they would never relinquish. The five-run second came courtesy of a 2-RBI double from Scott Hilbrandt and a 3-RBI double off the bat of Ryan McLaughlin.

NYU added a run in the third inning to go ahead 11-3 and the score remained that way until Emory scored a run in the seventh inning. The Eagles added two more runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to make the score 11-7, but Aaron Ackerman was able to induce a flyout and halt the Emory comeback with the tying run on deck.

Sal Cammisuli started on the mound for NYU and pitched six innings to improve to 6-1 on the season. The sophomore scattered nine hits, allowed three runs and struck out three.

Offensively, NYU was led by McLaughlin, who finished the day 4-for-4 in the leadoff spot. Hilbrandt, Coltrane Tait and Isaac Martinez each tallied two hits in the win.
