From NYU Athletics

The New York University baseball team dropped its first game of the season, 8-2, to Haverford College, but bounced back with a 13-3 victory in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, March 24, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.

NYU is now 13-1 on the season, while the Fords are now 7-8 after seeing their seven-game winning streak come to an end after game two on Saturday.

GAME ONE RECAP:

Haverford starting pitcher Ryan Giovenco held the Violets to three hits and two runs in 6.1 innings of work as the Fords scored eight runs on 15 hits. Five of those hits came from Michael Schwarze, who recorded a hit in each of his at bats. Schwarze and Sam Partee each hit home runs for Haverford.

NYU went ahead 2-0 with a run in each of the first two innings before the Fords answered with the final eight runs of the contest. Colman Hendershot and Cooper Halpern each knocked in a run for the Violets, while Coltrane Tait was the only NYU hitter to tally more than one baseknock. 

GAME TWO RECAP:

Tim Salvadore improved to 4-0 through five starts this season as the NYU offense erupted for four runs in the first inning and three more in the second to build an early lead. Salvadore took over from there, tossing seven innings and allowing just one run. 

The four-run first inning was highlighted by an RBI triple from Colman Hendershot and a 2-RBI triple by David Conforti. Jonathan Iaione recorded three of NYU's 13 hits, while Hendershot, Tait and Chris Cassandra each tallied a pair of hits. 

QUOTABLE:

"I was happy with the way the guys bounced back in game two today," said Head Coach Doug Kimbler. "It was a weird week due to travel and weather and we started slower than we would've like today. We came out aggressive in game two and got a great start from Tim in a big spot. We're looking forward to a busy week, it will be nice to get into a rhythm and get out there and keep working"
