NYU Win Streak Reaches Double Digits

From NYU Athletics

The New York University baseball team improved to 10-0 with a 12-2 victory over SUNY Plattsburgh on Friday, March 16, at the New York Yankees spring training complex in Tampa, FL.

NYU (10-0) scored two in the first, two in the second, five in the third and two more in the fourth to take control of the contest early. The Violets led the Cardinals (5-6) 11-2 after the fourth inning and tacked on another run in the sixth en route to the 12-2 victory.

"I think the way we pitch and play defense, once we take an early lead it makes everyone more comfortable," said Assistant Coach Mike Mobbs.

Ford Ladd improved to 3-0 on the mound this season, allowing only one hit and striking out four in six innings of work.

Ladd was helped by an NYU offense that saw each starter record at least one hit for the second-straight game and put up at least 12 runs for the sixth-straight game.

Leading the way for the Violets' offense on Friday were Ryan McLaughlin, Jonathan Iaione, Coltrane Tait, and Chris Cassandra, who each tallied a pair of hits. Iaione also knocked in four runs and now has a team-best 22 RBI through 10 games this season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

- The Violets only struck out one time in Friday's win.

- Tait's multi-hit game was his sixth-consecutive.

"He's been driving the ball to all fields and using every inch of the field," added Mobbs. "He's a big reason why we're 10-0."

- Zach Cohen, Will Jauss and Jake Kubiliun each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Kublliun struck out a a pair.

- Entering Friday, only 12 teams in Division III remained undefeated, and just four of those had played at least nine games.
